Faramarz is the son who lives long enough to inherit the work. He fights in Kabul and Hindustan, holds the family's country when Rostam is elsewhere, and is the one who settles what is owed after the worst thing in the poem happens to his father.
Where Rostam is sent for, Faramarz goes. It is a quieter kind of career, and the poem respects it.
